Booker T. Washington High School-Early College (BTWHS-EC)

 

Booker T. Washington High School-Early College is the newest early college small schools in the Atlanta Public School System.  The premise behind the early college concept is to afford students the opportunity to obtain college credits while going to high school in a small community environment.  Students who graduate from BTWHS-EC will undoubtedly be prepared to purse post secondary education at some of the top universities/colleges in the U.S.

Goals

 

·        To provide all students with postsecondary education readiness experiences that will allow students the opportunity to obtain up to 60 college credit hours while in high school.

·        To offer a challenging curriculum and the necessary social and academic support that will enable100% of the students to graduate from high school and pursue postsecondary education and/or options.

·        To partner with Georgia State University (GSU) and other universities, local community and business stakeholders to establish a rigorous academic program of study for students and lasting partnerships with stakeholders.

 

Objectives

 

·        To meet Georgia Performance Standards in all disciplines.

·        To establish at least two career pathways that will maintain the interest of students.

·        To involve parents and students in the transition process from middle to high school and high school to post secondary education.

·        To develop a personalized academic educational plan for each student.

 

Program of Study

 

In addition to the core program of study, students will be required to take the following classes to meet the requirements of the Early College School.

 

·        Early College Seminar

·        Early College Math

·        Early College English

·        Early College Social Studies

·        Early College Science

 

 
Uniforms
 
Uniform Requirements are the same as last year. Students who need to purchase new uniform shirts should contact the Early College office at (404) 802-4600 ASAP to order shirts.

Girls and Boys must wear official school shirt.

An Academic Spirit Pack is Available for $55 (3 shirts, planner, locker rental and school spirit item). NOTE: Students must remain in complete uniform until they exit the campus. 

 

  • NOTICE TO ALL APS STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND GUARDIANS

    This notice is to inform you that the Atlanta Public Schools has received a subpoena related to Fulton County Superior Court case 13SC117954. The subpoena requires the school system to produce information that may contain the education information of students, including student identification numbers.  Please note that the subpoena is directed to the school system, and you are not required to take any action or provide any information.  

    The school system will comply with the subpoena and provide the subpoenaed information unless restrained in some manner by legal authority. The school system is providing you this notice as required by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Should you choose to seek protective action, it is your responsibility to take the necessary steps with appropriate court officials. The school system must comply with the subpoena unless restrained in some manner by legal authority, and the school system is not allowed to withhold the subpoenaed information based upon a request by a student, parent, or guardian.

    Court officials will have access to the subpoenaed information on or after May 17, 2013, unless restrained in some manner by legal authority.

    Please be assured that Atlanta Public Schools takes the privacy of students and their families very seriously and discloses information related to students and their families only in a manner allowed by law.

  • Superintendent Search Committee community meetings

    The Superintendent Search Committee will hold community meetings at schools in every cluster. The purpose of the meetings is to obtain input regarding the profile for the next superintendent.  The meeting dates and locations are listed below. All meetings will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

     

    ·       May 15: North Region meetings will be held at Harper-Archer MS, the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy and Sutton MS.

    ·       May 16: South Region meetings will be held at Long MS and Price MS.

    ·       May 20: West Region meetings will be held at Brown MS, Bunche MS and Young MS.

    ·       May 21: East Region meetings will be held at Inman MS and King MS.
