Dear Hope-Hill Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to provide some clarity on the Mid-Year MAP testing schedule, as there have been concerns raised. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment is designed to measure a student’s academic achievement and growth over time in reading and mathematics. Together with other classroom-based information, MAP results is used as one of the multiple measures for teachers to make instructional decisions that match the needs of each child.
The district sets the testing window for all assessments, and as a general practice at Hope-Hill ES, we avoid scheduling district-identified tests on Mondays or Fridays. This approach allows our teachers, staff, and students to settle into the week before beginning assessments.
Despite the challenges posed by the testing window, we made concerted efforts to accommodate and plan the Mid-Year MAP administration for our students and teachers. However, due to limited options and conflicts with other events on the school calendar, we had to carefully consider the best course of action.
After setting our schoolwide testing dates, we realized there was a field trip scheduled during the testing window. Following thorough deliberations and with a commitment to prioritizing our students' well-being, we decided that our 1st and 2nd grade students participating in the field trip would take their assessment on Monday, November 28, 2023. This decision was made to avoid having the students take two tests back-to-back, which our teachers believed was in the students' best interest.
Our schoolwide testing dates were Tuesday, November 28, 2023, and for Mathematics on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
We will host an information session to provide more information about the MAP assessment at the next Principal’s Chat on December 8, 2023. Additionally, we will also host a general GMAS Overview in the spring prior to that assessment.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for our students.
Best regards,
Adrienne B. McCrary
